2011-2012 Training Season

Theater Program
Seussical Jr 2011

Before we go too far - you might be asking yourself "why do we call it a training season" rather than a dance year?

The answer is actually quite simple.  Although our past is rooted in dance Showtime has never been only about dance.  SDCA is constantly working to help develop programs that produce well rounded performers - think of it this way, the more tools you child has available to them, the more opportunities they will have in the future...

Changes for the Season

As we continue to improve the training available to our students, we have made some changes including new music programs in the 2011-2012 season.  Here is a quick synopsis of the changes: we have returned acro to our dance program both in the form of a beginner and advanced class, we continue to extend music options with a small band program which combines all the aspects of participating in a band, and finally we continue to grow the depth of the experience you receive in our theatre program.  This year's season includes classes in the following skill sets:

    • Dance - Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro, Lyrical, Contemporary,
      Hip Hop, Pointe

    • Theater - Voice, Acting, Improv, Use of Technology
    • Music - Small Band
    • Choreography and Training

Performance Opportunities / Activities

SDCA believes that the key to gaining confidence is positive reinforcement along with real achievement with a touch of FUN.  We don't believe that either a single public performance like a recital nor only classroom based positive feedback are able to produce real lasting confidence.   In addition, we understand that in rough economic times cost is always a concern with our children's activities.  To that end, we provide multiple opportunites for your child to showcase their skills and/or have a great time with their studio friends.  The following activities are in the planning phase for all our students this year:

First Annual Spookfest

Tenatively planned for the afternoon of 10/29 this event will include fun games, activities, good food, great music, and occassionally a special spooky guest.  There is no charge to attend this event for students, family members, and of course bring your friends.  There will be a small charge for food if you eat at the event to help cover costs.

Christmas Parade

Tenative December 3 this event will be for all students; to participate you will have to purchase a Studio Holiday T-Shirt similar to a Recital t-shirt.

Celebrate The Holidays Annual Showcase

December 17 this showcase includes all the students in the studio and has no participation cost.  For those wishing to watch the show there is a small charge for tickets (typically between 5-8 dollars) to help cover the costs.

Recital 2012

Although our students are highly encouraged to participate in the June recital it is not a requirement.  There is a participation cost associated with recital which not only covers your things your child needs such as costumes but also includes a generous number of tickets to view the event.  Showtime Recitals are always first class done at selective venues, with profressional grade equipment, and professional staff from the entertainment companies in the area.  We feel that this event is very important and, therefore, should be one of the best days in your child's life so we work hard to ensure that goal is met.
