Theatre Tradition

 

Showtime has always been way ahead of the curve with new an innovative programs - Our Theatrical Program is no different.  In the beginning, we had what many call a "Musical Theater" class which is basically an extension of dance - single songs, minimal singing, and basic acting skills but a great place to start.  Years ago SDCA's program grew beyond that and we began focusing on all the elements involved in theater teaching voice, acting, and improv.  Participants in this program perform in an annual Musical Production in late spring.

This program has significantly matured since original conception - we imploy a variety of staff and guest teachers with a variety of on-stage and back stage experience in the entertainment industry as well as local community theater groups to ensure that they get all the skills needed for a successful performance.  We provide them both classroom and on-stage experience not only with skills like voice, acting, and improv but also with the technology used in professional shows so, for example, they learn the right way to use microphones.

Last year we actually produced three outstanding shows: our 6-9 year olds did Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr while our older students did Seussical Jr and a really funny Holiday play entitled: CSI:Christmas Scene Investigators or Who Stole Santa Claus...  In addition, our theater student's got the opportunity to do several musical numbers, demostrate their amazing voices, as well as skits on-stage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center - WHAT A THRILL!
